Roman Capital Variation 002:
The decomposition & the Recomposition of the Line.

カリグラフィーで使われる書体のうちの一つ、

ローマンキャピタル(ROMAN CAPITAL) のモノライン(スケルトンレターフォーム) の習作、

“線の分解と再構築シリーズ”。

先日書いた “Roman Capital Variation 001” とは同じ文章でないですが、

白黒だけではつまらなくもなってきたので、色で書いてみました。

ようやく “文字を構成する線を分解” するという作業にも慣れてきたようで、

あまりアタマを使わずに “線分解” の作業ができるようになってきました。

ん〜っ、慣れるということは、スゴいと実感です。

次のゴールは、もう少し長い文章をピックアップして、テクスチャーになるように書いてみる！

Roman Capital Variation 001:
The decomposition & the Recomposition of the Line.

カリグラフィーで使われる書体のうちの一つ、

ローマンキャピタル(ROMAN CAPITAL) のモノライン(スケルトンレターフォーム) の習作、

“線の分解と再構築シリーズ”。

今回は、ダブルペンシルでかいたモノラインの線を一旦分解してから、再構築していく作業をしていきます。書き始めの頭や手は、線をほどよくバラすことができず、文字そのものもぎこちない動きの様子でした。しばらく手を動かして線をバラしていく作業をしていると、頭もバラした線に体する見方も慣れてきた様で、自然に線ものびのびとした動きに変わっていきました。

こうなってきたらシメタもの！

線をバラして、再度アルファベットらしく構築していく作業がかなり楽しくなってきました。

とりあえずは形になってきたけど、どことなく硬い感じがするので、

もう少し線を動かして柔らかくしてみようと思います。

Roman Capital

ローマンキャピタル（ROMAN CAPITAL）：

紀元114年、ローマ帝国のトラヤヌス帝が建立した石碑に刻まれていた文字。ギリシア文字から発展してできた大文字。

幾何学的なプロポーションから現在でも活字(フォント)の基本としても使われている。

ローマンキャピタルのベースは、8等分された正方形の中に接した正円である。アルファベット26文字が、ベースを含めて4パターンのプロポーションに分類される。

Roman Capital: Happy Birthday

Roman Capital Variation:
Monoline Series

久しぶりにカリグラフィーネタです。

最近では、Boxばかりアップロードしていますが、水面下では文字もちゃんと書いています（笑）。

さて上記の画像は、カリグラフィーで使われる書体のうちの一つ、*ローマンキャピタル (ROMAN CAPITAL) のモノライン(スケルトンレターフォーム) の習作。

面白いものができたので、それを基にイラストレーターで作成したもの。

ローマンキャピタルを習得するのに初めにすることは、鉛筆でモノライン(スケルトンレターフォーム)を書いて、アルファベット26文字が持つそれぞれのフォームの特性を理解することだそうです。
ということで、上記の習作に至るまでは、まずはひたすら方眼紙に基本形の26文字を手書きし続けました。

次にそのフォームの特性を理解して書くことが慣れてきたら、 アルファベットの一文字一文字がもっているスペースをほどよい程度に空けて、横に並べて単語を形成していくのですが。

ノート2冊弱に、ローマンキャピタルの基本形とされる形をひたすら書き続けていると、どうなるかって。やはり飽きますよね。ふとある時に、単語の文字を横に並べるのではなく、上に重ねてしまったらどうなるのだろうか？という好奇心がぽよぽよとよぎり、思わず文字同士を重ねてみました。

上の画像左は “HAPPY”で、右は “BIRTHDAY”という単語が書かれています。

“BIRTHDAY”という単語を重ね合わせてレイアウト調整していたら、面白いコトに、Bが身ごもっている母で、逆向きのRがその妻を支えているようにも見え、また中心点が彼らの子供のようにも見えてきて、なんともBIRTHDAYに相応しい形になりました〜。すばらしいぃ。

幾何学的でまったく予期しない2次元の空間は、文字であり、意味もあり、その単語の持つ意をビジュアルでも想像できて、楽しい偶然の産物！

しばらくローマンキャピタルのバリエーション熱は続きそうです。

けしごむすたんぷ / I Q A : Old Italic Hand

Labo.のリメイクしながら、掃除しながら、整理整頓していたら
数ヶ月前に彫ってみた、けしごむすたんぷがでてきた。

Old Italic 体を参考に"IQA"のモノグラムを作って彫ってみました。。

彫っている時は、“うう〜んっ??”って思いながらだったけど、
インクつけて捺してみたら、意外とよい感じ！?

Labo.ができて落ち着いたら、また彫ってみたいなぁ。

けしごむすたんぷ

一生やることはなりだろうと思っていたけしごむすたんぷに、手を付けてしまった。

お腹がでてきた中年のイニシャル「A」というキャラ設定。

とあるWSで、おまけでけしごむすたんぷを彫るというのがあって。

それに参加したら、メインよりもすたんぷ彫りが楽しくなってしまって。

彫り残しがたくさんある感が妙に愛おしく思えて。。

熱が冷めないうちにもう少し彫ってみますわ。

次のアルファベットはどんなキャラ設定にしましょうか。。。

お告げのように、最近よく耳にするコトバ。

イラレ・データ化・アウトライン・デジタル・データ印刷……etc

イラストレーターが扱えるようになると、いろいろと可能性の幅がかなり広がるのかな〜と思いつつも、アタマの中の予想から域を超える事ができなくて、購入してから数える程度しか使っておらずに、宝の持ち腐れとなってました。

先日、とあるアマチュア本格的デザイナーさんとお話する機会があって、「基本的なことだけでもイラレ使いこなしたいんですよね〜」と話していたら、手書き文字のスキャンデータくれたらアウトライン化してあげるということ！！！　しばらくしたら、アウトライン化されたデータと少し加工されたäö文字が送られてきました！äö文字が画面いっぱいに、楽し気に踊ってました。面倒くさいとか解らなすぎるとか言っている場合ではないですね。さらなる可能性が絶対に広がるな〜と確実な気が付きに変わりましたね。

ピンクのが、äö文字（by）をトレースしたものです。黒い文字は、Papyrusというフォントです。こうして形にして、目で見れると、楽しくなってきますね。

タイトルの"Et" は "&"で、つまりandです。

最近 "Et" (&/and)に夢中。

いろんなカタチがあって、見ているだけでも、なかなか楽しい。

英語本来の意味が知りたくなり、English English Dictionaryで調べたら、下記のように定義してました。

Conjunction//
along or together with; as well as; in addition to; besides; also; moreover...

何気なく使っていたコトバだけど、"Et"は、いつも誰かと誰かや、誰かと何かをなどなどetc、

世界中を繋げてるのですね。

あらためて意識的にandを考えたら、実はcatalyst（触媒）だった。

（触媒というよりは、catalystってコトバがスキです。）

意識的にモノを考えるようにすると、ハッ！とすることが多くなるので、

小さなことから大きなワクワク得れると楽しい。
